Penn State Sorority Mocks Latino’s
A sorority (Chi Omega) at Penn state started quite a buzz earlier this week when photo’s of them at a Mexican themed party hit social networks. The owners of the picture were tracked down from Facebook tags and then it went viral. According to cnn the sorority has issued an apology and are now under investigation by their Greek council. But according to Penn State Public relations director, these young ladies are within their rights in posting this picture.
“The students in the photo are within their First Amendment rights to express themselves in this way, although we are certainly appalled that they would display this level of insensitivity and lack of judgment..because the right of free expression is guaranteed under the Constitution – for both behaviors we disagree with or for those that we support – we are approaching this as a teachable moment to engage this group of young women in discussions about their actions and to further educate them about diversity issues,”
If there are to be any consequences it will have to take place from the “National Leadership” of Chi Omega.
