More Gun Violence! 4 Firefighters Shot On Christmas Eve
Another instance of gun violence has struck in the Rochester suburb of Webster, New York this morning around 6 am. As firefighters responded to a house fire, four were ambushed and shot with an assault rifle. Lt. Mike Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka were shot dead, while Theodore Scardino and Joseph Hofsetter are recovering at Strong Memorial Hospital, according to the Huffington Post.
Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering told reporters that the shooter was found dead outside the home where the shootings occurred, killed by a gunshot. It’s unclear whether the shot was self-inflicted. Pickering said the firefighters were shot at when they pulled up to a house in the 100 block of Lake Road. One firefighter was able to flee the scene, while the other three were “pinned down at the location.” A SWAT team responded, rescued the firefighter who was alive and then engaged the suspect.
As if this isn’t shocking enough, the case appears to be a conspiracy.
“It does appear that it was a trap that was set,” said Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering, his voice breaking at times. “People who get up in the middle of the night to fight fires, they don’t expected to get shot and killed.”
Cops are investigating the deaths of Chiapperini and Kaczowka, and the shooter has yet to be identified.
