Coca-Cola Ads To Discuss Obesity
“Open Happiness” by drinking an ice-cold can of Coke and think about the “obesity epidemic”
According to CBS, Coca-Cola plans to address obesity in its future advertisements. Soda has long been a target in news media as the antithesis of health and a major contributing factor to obesity. Aren’t most of us familiar with the Pouring on the Pounds campaign?
In the new ads, Coca-Cola will outline its history of providing low-cal beverages and remind people that sugary drinks like Coca-Cola, (approximately 40g in a 12oz bottle) are not the sole contributor to obesity; consumption of too many calories of any source will inevitably result in weight gain. We can expect to see more diet options at soda fountains with the new campaign, according to CBS.
Even with the growing popularity of diet sodas, however, overall soda consumption in the U.S. has declined steadily since 1998, according to the industry tracker Beverage Digest.
