New York Passes Strictest Gun Laws In The Nation
Governor Cuomo and the New York Legislature have started the new year with a bang. Setting the tone for gun control legislation, the Big apple state have written into law the strictest and most comprehensive gun laws in the entire nation.
The law passed the Republican run New York State senate by a landslide margin of 43-18 In what is yet another huge piece of legislation that the New York Governor rumored to be running for president in 2016 has added to his resume. Here are some of the bigger pieces of the bill:
requires background checks for even private gun sales, except those among immediate family.
handgun owners must renew their licenses every five years, increases prison sentences for using guns in various crimes or taking them on school grounds.
Local authorities will be allowed to withhold the identities of registered gun owners, restricts ammunition magazines to seven bullets, down from the current 10. Makes New York the first state to require background checks to buy bullets. A system that will flag customers who buy large amounts of ammo.
The bill was signed into law by Governor Cuomo shortly after it was voted on.
