Pregnant Teen Sues Her Parents
A 16-year-old girl form Texas, now two months pregnant, has sued her parents for allegedly trying to force her to have an abortion.
ABC News reported,
“The teen claims that her parents have taken away her phone, pulled her out of school, forced her to get two jobs and taken away her car in an effort to “make her miserable so that she would give in to the coercion and have the abortion,” the lawsuit said.”
Because she is a minor, she is identified in the lawsuit as R.E.K.
Lawyer Stephen Casey for Texas Center for Defense of Life told ABC, “Regardless of the [situation], that’s her parents and she should expect support from them in this situation, not resentment and anger.” Past records show the Texas Center for Defense of Life has had success with similar cases.
The lawsuits state the parents used verbal and physical threats to persuade their daughter.
According to ABC’s reports, the parents could be deemed criminally liable under Texas’ Fetal Homicide Law. In addition to the expectant mother, the fetuses are protected under Texas law.
