The Onion Apologizes For Insulting 9-Year-Old Quvenzhané Wallis
The Onion sent the Twitterverse into attack mode on Sunday evening after calling the young and talented break-out actress, Quvenzhané Wallis, the C-Word.
The tweet, which was deleted about an hour after it was posted, read: “Everyone else seems afraid to say it, but that Quvenzhané Wallis is kind of a c–t, right?”
Though the publication is known for it’s unrelenting satire and snide remarks, CEO Steve Hannah issued an apology on behalf of the Onion on Monday.
“It was crude and offensive—not to mention inconsistent with The Onion’s commitment to parody and satire, however biting. . . Miss Wallis, you are young and talented and deserve better. All of us at The Onion are deeply sorry.”
According to Huffington Post, The Onion does not credit individual writers for jokes. However, the publication is in the process of taking disciplinary action against those responsible for publishing the insulting tweet, according to Hannah.
