Faith Healing Couple: Second Child Dies
A Philadelphia couple sentenced to 10 years probation for involuntary manslaughter after not seeking medical help for their sick toddler who later died in 2009, may now face new charges now that their 8-month-old son, Brandon, has passed away.
Herbert and Catherine Schaible are fundamentalist Christians who believe in “faith healing” rather than modern medicine, according to recent reports. When their toddler fell ill with bacterial pneumonia, and when Brandon began experiencing diarrhea and trouble breathing, the couple prayed for their health to return because their beliefs prohibit them from going to doctors.
The Schaibles have since lost custody of their other seven children, NPR reported.
