Fast & Furious 6 Beats out Hangover and Makes History
This memorial day weekend saw two blockbuster movies going at it. Fast and Furious featuring stars like Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Ludacris, Terese Gibson, Vin Desil, and Paul Walker. Released its sixth installment on the same day that the Wolf Pac returned to the big screen for Hangover 3. Both movies saw major success in the box office, but there could only be one winner of the entire weekend. This time around it was Fast 6.
The action movie featuring fast cars and lots of explosions made just over $95 million dollars over the weekend, making it the number one movie in the country, and giving it the sixth highest box office total for a memorial day opening ever. Hangover 3 came in second grossing over $40 million in its opening weekend.
The President of Warner Brothers distribution discussed the hangovers numbers after it was projected to make at least $70 million this weekend:
“It was a little surprising that we didn’t reach the $80 million mark, but I can’t look at a $63 million or $64 million opening and say it wasn’t solid…Obviously, the first choice was Fast 6, but hopefully people will get a dose of that film and then come back to us.”
Do you plan on seeing any of these movies, if so which one?
