Nelson Mandela Hospitalized In “Serious but Stable Condition”
Nelson Mandela, the revolutionary politician and former President of South Africa, is currently at Pretoria hospital in “Serious but Stable” condition. The African leader who spent over 20 years in prison before becoming South Africa’s first black president was taken in because of issues with a reoccurring lung infection.
According to his spokesman, the former President has been hospitalized since Saturday when his health worsened. According to CNN:
Mandela’s wife, Graca Machel, is at the hospital with him. She canceled her plans to attend the Hunger Summit meeting in London on Saturday.
After completing his time as president Mandela was also involved in efforts to negotiate conflicts in different parts of Africa as well as the Middle East. At 94 years old, the former leader has been less visible in public over the last few years, but still has an over swell of support in South Africa.
