Underwater for 97 years, Message in a Bottle Now on Display
While searching for hidden treasures, a scuba diver discovered a 97 year old message in a bottle in the St.Clair River outside Detroit.
Despite being buried by silt, the bottle was spotted by Dave Leander of the Great Lakes Dive Center who reported to Detroit’s WJBK that he was even able to read the message while still underwater. Found last June, both the bottle and its note will soon be on display at a local museam on Harsens Island, Michigan.
Written by Stella Pramstaller and Tillie Esper, the message reads “Having a great time at Tashmoo”, the amusement park on Harsens.
Eric Schiebold, one of Esper’s 32 grandchildren told WJBK:
Here’s something that’s 100 years old in the bottom of the river, and how can that be related to me?” Schiebold said. “I remember her from the time I was a kid, but what about her life before? This is a fascinating story.
