Transgender Child Wins Civil Rights Case
In a never-before-seen ruling that may set a new precedent for transgender children across the country, the Colorado Civil Rights Division has ruled in favor of a first grader who was born a boy, but identifies as a girl, by granting her access to the girls bathroom at her elementary school.
Although Coy Mathis, was biologically born male, she has been dressing as a girl for almost a year. Both her state issued identification and her passport identifies her as female. Coy’s mother says that as soon as Coy was able to express herself, she was “really expressing that she was a girl.”
According to CNN,
In issuing its decision, the state’s rights division said keeping the ban in place “creates an environment that is objectively and subjectively hostile, intimidating or offensive.”
