Sanford Police Department Makes PSA to Deter Rioting
As the closing statements are being made for the George Zimmerman V.S. Florida trial, tensions are continuing to rise and the fear that a riot may ensue if George Zimmerman is not convicted are increasing. In response to these fears the Sanford police department has created a PSA meant to ease the tensions.
Working with Broward Sheriff’s office, the Sanford police looked into a creative option to deter violence in the streets of Florida if the verdict was not in favor of the prosecution. What came of it was a 37 second PSA which consisted of part spoken word, part rap freestyle that encourages people to rely on their police force with lyrics such as;
“Let’s give violence a rest because we could easily end up arrested … Let’s back up and choose not to act up.”
The video which is available on youtube has already received over twenty thousand views and some very colorful comments.
